The 7in7 Challenge

The challenge – to run from Liverpool, the City where it all started, to Make-A-Wish UK’s HQ in Reading, Berkshire.

230 miles (370km).

That’s 7 ultra-marathons in 7 consecutive days, wearing a different wish related costume each day.

How on earth am I going to run 7 consecutive ultra-marathons?

Erm….no idea. Having only ever run 1 marathon this is going to be new and an experience, to say the least. The basic aim is to be running 10 – 12 mile stints, stopping to eat and rehydrate, and then off again.

Normally I’m strapping bags of kit to my bike, this time I’m carrying it all myself so if there was ever a time to watch the weight (being a weight weenie, apparently) it’s now!

There are, no matter what challenge, some key bits of kit I take so the list is always an easy start but as this is multi-day running there will be some subtle difference. Similarly, there is always something you haven’t thought of, so when I read fellow Active Root Ambassador Mel’s blog on her tips for running a 24hr solo race I struck gold…toilet paper….no one wants to be caught short.

If you’re interested, give the blog a read here – – well worth it!

Anyway, here’s what I’m planning to take with me;

Base Layer

2XU Accelerate Compression Shorts

Rymora Calf Sleeves

Hilly TwinSkin Socks (x2)

New Balance Vazee Prism 2

Leightweight waterproof layer

Runr headscarf

Anker SoundBuds Slim earphones

Garmin Vivoactive HR + Charger

Mains USB Charger

Kreco Battery pack

Gopro Hero5 session + stick mount

SPF 50 Suncream

Body glide anti-chafe balm

Compeed blister plasters

Ibuprofen, Imodium and Zantac

Toilet paper & wet wipes

And to eat…

33Shake Chai gels (x2)

Pip&Nut Squeeze pack (x2)

Jelly Babies (x12)

Energy bar

Active Root

Hopefully I haven’t missed anything but I am not in the middle of nowhere so I am sure I’ll find food if I get desperate. Plus I have picked some really nice looking cafes where possible to have my main breaks to refuel.

Get involved

If you are local to the route and want to run a few miles with me or just want to come out and support, please do get in touch. You can view the routes here;

If you’re not a Strava user then you can view the routes on ViewRanger, which I’ll be using ViewRanger to provide live tracking of each day’s progress, so you can see where I am at any point;

The basic itinerary for the 7 days is set out on the 7in7 Challenge page of this website.

Dontate – this is all for Make-A-Wish UK so if you want to help make some wishes come true then I’d be so greatful to you. Just head over to my JustGiving page at

Thanks for reading – wish me luck tomorrow x
